Foil Feedback, 2010

This performance was realized with three contact mics, a sheet of aluminum foil, and a mixer. Two of the mics were plugged into channels 1 and 2 of the mixer, panned left and right, and taped to opposite sides of the foil. The third mic was connected to the mixer’s aux send, acting as a speaker in a feedback loop with channel 1.

The performance consisted of my moving the aux mic around the foil, finding parts that resonated in different ways, due to vibration of the foil and coupling with the mics. I intentionally tried for deeper, complex tones, which I found more interesting than the typical high pitched feedback howls.
